Objective

The US-based Health Care Company embarked on a journey of data migration to Azure to create a patient accounting-related Unified Data Warehouse on Azure by bringing data from their 23 Patient Accounting Systems (module within EMR systems) and plan to engage Datametica and leverage their expertise in building the end-to-end pipeline at an expedited speed.

The primary goal of this engagement is to reuse and replicate work done to integrate Parallon and Paragon systems to leverage the Data Factory pipelines and Common Data Model built so far and onboard remaining EMR systems related to the remaining 23 Patient Accounting System records on to Azure-based Synapse Analytics Platform

Challenges

The client was facing difficulties in creating a unified data warehouse. The transformation logic was complex and the Azure environment was new for them.

They wanted to complete the project in a quick timeline and all this complexity was leading to a delay in completion.

Solutions

Datametica recommended revised solutions/ technical architecture focusing on critical technical design, including Final architecture, Data pipeline Design, source, and target mapping documentation, DevOps process, and validation strategy.

Based on the revised architecture, we customized the current Azure architecture, integrated in-scope 23 source systems with Azure, performed one-time in-scope systems historical data migration to Azure, developed data ingestion pipeline, and setup orchestration & scheduling using Azure Data Factory together with DevOps CI/CD pipeline.

A validation strategy was also provided to verify the implementation of the project.

Azure services used for the project were Azure Data Factory v2, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen 2, Azure SQL Database (DTU Based), Dedicated SQL Pool (Synapse DataWarehouse), and Azure DevOps.
